Explanation for Question 34 From the Math (Calc) Section on the 2019 April Sat
In 34, we're given this table here with monthly enrollments and art classes at 2 two community centers for seven consecutive months. 3 And we want to know based on the table, by how much does the 4 median monthly enrollment in community center be exceed the median monthly enrollment in community 5 center. A so we can first start off by finding the medians of both 6 community centers. And then the difference between those two medians will tell us how 7 much the median for B exceeds the median for it. 8 So I always find the median by crossing off the smallest value and 9 then the largest value. It might be easier if you write them out in 10 order from least to greatest. But if you are low on time, 11 this method saves you that extra step of rewriting the entire dataset. 12 So we can look for just looking at community center. 13 A we're going to look for the smallest value that is 77. 14 So I will cross it off. Then the largest value is 1 52. 15 So now the next smallest value is going to be 82. 16 We can cross that off. Then the next largest is 17 1 33. The next smallest is 9 88 and 18 the next largest is 1 24. So that leaves one 11. 19 If I were to have written it in order from least to greatest, 20 here are my seven data points. 21 I essentially just went like this. 22 So crossing off the outer two values, 23 the next to the next two to leave the middle. 24 I just didn't do the extra step of writing it from least to greatest. 25 But if you have time and it helps you visually, ...
