Explanation for Question 38 From the Math (Calc) Section on the 2018 March Sat
Question 38 asks by the end of the season, 2 the coach wants the team to reduce its mean split time by 10% as 3 compared to this race at the, at the end of the season, 4 what should the teams mean? Split time, be in seconds. 5 So the first thing we have to do here is calculate the mean of 6 the split times. And then we have to reduce that number by 10%. 7 So let's start by looking back at the chart up here and finding the 8 mean. So all we have to do is add these four together, 9 which gives us 440 and then we need to divide 10 by the amount of numbers that we're adding. So since there's four numbers that 11 we added together, we're going to divide by four to find the mean, 12 and I guess there's 110. So the means split time for this race was 13 110 seconds. 14 So the main split time for this race is 110 seconds, 15 but the coach wants to reduce that amount by 10%. 16 So we're going to multiply that number by 0.9 and 17 that's going to give us 99 seconds. 18 And that is the answer to question 38.
