Explanation for Question 35 From the Math (Calc) Section on the 2018 March Sat
Question 35 says what value of Z satisfies the equation above? 2 So I'm going to start by just rewriting. This equation. 3 Z is equal to five, over two Z minus 21, 4 over eight. I'm going to add 21 over eight to both sides and subtract 5 Z from both sides. So that gives me 21. 6 Over eight is equal to three over to Z. 7 And then I'm going to divide both sides by three, over two, 8 which is the same as multiplying both sides by two for three. 9 So 21 times two for three is 10 42. Over 24 is equal to Z. 11 And we can simplify that into 21 over 12, 12 that actually simplifies again to seven over four. 13 So we know that Z is equal to seven.
