Explanation for Question 1 From the Writing Section on the 2018 April Sat

Hey guys. So question one is going to be dealing with the use of 2 it's there and it's, um, 3 for the use of possession. So I didn't say it's twice right there and 4 that's because we're dealing with a difference between, uh, 5 it's it's there and 6 there. So all these are obviously priced the same way, 7 but the two of these here are, 8 uh, contractions it's with an apostrophe means it is, 9 and they're with apostrophe means they are whereas 10 it's and there are ways of showing possession. 11 So if there's a group of people, you say, well, 12 it's their time to do this? Where if it's a single person, 13 you say it's his time, um, 14 to do this. So, or, or, 15 um, it's um, you know, 16 that actually, sorry, I use that wrong. I just use a possessive, 17 you should jump it of it is say it's his time or, 18 but another way of saying, um, it's mechanics, 19 like as used here, I was talking about a singular person, 20 I would say, um, that machine and its mechanics, 21 um, because that's a singular item. 22 So this is, this is singular possession and this is plural possession. 23 So in reading the sentence here, we had fair. 24 Are we trying to say possession? And is this for a singular or plural 25 item? So this has a Benjamin Banneker gain, 26 local fame for making a working clock in 1753 a time when few people 27 owned clocks, let alone understood their mechanics. 28 So let's just saying, it's just giving possession to the word mechanics. 29 I mean, they're not saying they are, and we're not saying it is saying 30 cross that out and we need to figure out, are the mechanics belong to 31 something that is plural or singular? Now this is saying that these mechanics are 32 in regards to clocks, not a single clock, 33 um, not a single clock, 34 but multiple clocks is like a time when few people owned clocks, 35 let N let alone understood the mechanics of those clocks. 36 So we need to use their plural because it's clocks and not.
