Explanation for Question 11 From the Math (No Calc) Section on the 2018 April Sat
Question 11 says in 1962, 2 the population of a bird species was 2000. 3 The population K years after 1962 was 48 and 4 K satisfies the equation above which of the following is the best interpretation 5 of the number 61 in this context. 6 Well, what we know is that whatever 61 is being multiplied by that's 7 being subtracted from the population. 8 So it represents a decrease in the population. 9 And we also know that it's being multiplied by K, 10 which represents the number of years after 1962, 11 which means however many years it's been since 1962 is 12 being multiplied by 61. And that's then being subtracted from the population, 13 which tells us that it's the average decrease per year, 14 uh, from the population, because that's what we're subtracting. 15 So from that, we know that the answer must be answer choice D.
