Explanation for Question 17 From the Writing Section on the 2017 May Sat
Question 17 asks us to choose the correct punctuation to have between 2 the word art and the word up the sentence reads Duncan. 3 Henderson's the film producer acknowledge the tension between the competing demands of accuracy 4 and art. The more real it is, 5 the more, the more the movie moves effortlessly forward because people are quickly 6 taking it into that world. So essentially we have a quote here, 7 a quote that is by Duncan Henderson, 8 which has mentioned the beginning of the sentence. 9 And we want to know how to introduce that quote. 10 Are we introducing the quote with a colon B with a dash 11 C with a semi-colon and dropping 12 those quotations and D with a comment and also dropping the quotations 13 now, right off the bat, I'm going to tell you if we're finishing off 14 with a quotation, um, 15 at the end of the quote right here, 16 we can't start off without a quotation. 17 We need that quotation to keep the consistency so we can cross out C 18 and D and then between a colon and a dash. 19 It's just a rule that you have to know. We, 20 um, in the sat we use Colin's before, 21 um, quotes, so Colin's can be used for a list. 22 They can be used for a quote. They can be used for an elaboration 23 of those things. And quotes included B the dash that's doesn't really 24 use for, um, to introduce a quote. 25 It can be used to kind of separate, um, 26 a phrase or a class, and sometimes it's used in the same sense of 27 the colon, but not in this case. So we're good with a, 28 the colon.
