[Video] Q6: Question 6 from the math (calc) section of 2017 may sat

Explanation for Question 6 From the Math (Calc) Section on the 2017 May Sat

For question six, we are trying to find the value of H in 2 a right rectangular prism that has a volume of 60 cubic 3 inches. So they tell us that three and five are two of our dimensions. 4 They give us age as the third one, and they give us the total 5 volume. We want to find that missing value when it comes to 6 geometry problems like this, I always recommend that you draw it out. 7 You don't have to be the best artist. It does not matter just to 8 get, um, a general idea of what 9 this looks like. So let's say that's all right with angular prism. 10 Um, we know that it 11 all equals two 60, the volume, 12 and we have some of our dimensions. 13 We can say three and five, 14 and we're missing X. If you're a member of the equation for 15 the volume of rectangular prism, 16 it is length times, width, 17 times height equals 60. 18 It's going to be three times five, 19 which is what we know times X, 20 which is what we don't know. I'm going to revisit a different color to 21 make it a little bit more clear. 22 And that equals 60. So, 23 oh, we need to know now is what X is equal so we can 24 kind of solve for X by isolating it. 25 Three times five is 15 times X is 15 X 26 equals 60. Now this is the calculator section. 27 We, you don't have to use it. Um, 28 we can use it just to be sure. Um, 29 we divide both sides by 15 and get a four. 30 So X equals four, which means that this side right here is four. 31 Obviously this is not drawn to scale, but it just changed that you have 32 that equation.
