Explanation for Question 30 From the Writing Section on the 2017 April Sat
Question 30 asks us about the ordering of the sentences in this paragraph. 2 So what we'll need to do is first take a look at sentence three 3 and see how it relates to the rest of the paragraph sentence. 4 Three says, but Michelangelo took on the giant with zeal and finished the statue 5 in just two years. So they use of this, 6 but at the beginning of the sentence, suggest to us that it should follow, 7 um, some, some discussion that sort of contradicts the idea of this sentence. 8 We need this sentence, the meaning of Michelangelo finishing the statue, 9 and just two years to sort of contradict what comes right 10 before it. So if you recall, the previous paragraph was talking about all the 11 different obstacles that were, that were sort of faced, 12 um, by the sculptor going into this project. 13 So it makes a lot of sense to use this sentence, 14 to sort of transition from that discussion into the discussion of his 15 successes. 16 For that reason, we're going to move sentence three way up to the front 17 before sentence one, and we'll see that the rest of the details in this 18 paragraph kind of make sense after that. So we start off by saying that 19 the statute was finished in just two years, and then we understand, 20 um, what it depicts, how the sculptor solved all the problems 21 with the block, um, 22 and how he was able to overcome the limitations. 23 So this sentence actually provides a really nice contrast between 24 discussion as a good transition, 25 excuse me, between discussing the obstacles that were faced, 26 which has done in the previous paragraph and sort of how this feat was 27 achieved and what the outcome was in the paragraph we're currently looking at. 28 So that's why it's kind of that middle sentence between the two paragraphs and 29 we select answer choice B for this question.
