Explanation for Question 18 From the Writing Section on the 2017 April Sat

Question number 18 talks about, 2 um, another kind of verb tense situation. 3 The sentence reads attracted by these resources, 4 many different kinds of wildlife blank, 5 beavers ponds. So first like usual, 6 we're going to determine what the subject of our sentences, 7 um, in this case, it's the kinds of wildlife. 8 So since we're talking about different kinds, this is going to be a plural 9 subject kinds of wildlife. 10 So we want to make sure that our subject is plural. 11 So our verb is plural as well. Um, 12 this for a peer in habits is going to be singular so 13 we can eliminate the no change option that doesn't work. 14 Um, choice B and habit is a plural option. 15 So this is looking really strong as a best answer here. 16 Um, choice C are inhabited again, 17 plural, um, but there's sort of this introduction of a 18 different tents. In this case, we can really stick with the present tense. 19 There's no reason not to, um, 20 the surrounding sentences, um, 21 are talking about present tense situations. 22 So there's really no reason to say are inhabited. 23 We can just say inhabit. Um, 24 and habit is also more active. 25 Um, it kind of shows the subject doing the action rather than having the 26 action done to it. Um, 27 so choice C is slightly less strong compared to choice B and choice D 28 have inhabited. Um, 29 this one doesn't fit either again. 30 We don't need to stray away from that present tense. 31 So the present plural tense and habit is going to be our best 32 fit for this context.
