Explanation for Question 50 From the Reading Section on the 2017 April Sat
Question 50 asks for evidence for the answer to the previous question, 2 our previous question number 49 asks about the experimental process of 3 Martell and SDRs and sort of why they brought on, 4 um, a specialist in lignin in order to carry out their research. 5 So we'll take a look at each of these answer choices in turn, 6 starting with choice a line 22 line 7 22 says Martin, didn't set out to locate like an algae. 8 Um, and that's definitely correct, but it doesn't really fully speak to the answer 9 choice. Um, or the answer to the previous question rather, 10 um, question 49 asks about why scientists who specialize 11 in like men were brought on. Um, 12 but this doesn't really speak to that very well. So we can eliminate a 13 choice. B is lines 30 to 32. 14 Um, so here the calcified or rigid body and seaweed has 15 multiple noncalcified joints that make it flexible yet strong enough to handle that setting. 16 Um, this, again, doesn't speak to new researchers being brought on, 17 uh, and answered twice, see lines 33 to 37 is going to do that 18 much better. Um, here we see when collaborators, 19 um, examined the joints, they found the secondary cell 20 wall that prompted them to seek out, 21 um, experts in men. So there's choice C 22 is going to be our correct answer choice D 42 to 45 23 up here, John Ralph and colleagues at the university of Wisconsin. 24 Madison's great lakes, bioenergy research center, 25 detective lignin. Um, this doesn't really speak to the intentions of the original 26 scientists in kind of including John Roth and his colleagues. 27 So for that reason we can eliminate choice date. 28 It's definitely relevant. It's very closely related, 29 but, um, in reality it doesn't, 30 it doesn't really speak to the intentions or the initial findings of the scientists 31 that led to the inclusion of that new team. 32 So choice C is our best answer.
