Explanation for Question 10 From the Reading Section on the 2017 April Sat
All right. Question number 10 as used in line 72 impression. 2 Most nearly means what? So let's take the question, 3 um, or excuse me in line 72 and see how impression is used here. 4 Um, inland 72, 5 it says, despite its Baroness, the impression it gave with Alaska clarity rather than 6 poverty. So remember what we're describing here, 7 um, is the room itself. 8 It's not a big room despite its fairness. 9 The impression it gave was of austerity rather than poverty. 10 So we're referring to the room. Um, 11 we're referring to how the room looks, 12 how the room perhaps, uh, 13 make someone feel or, um, 14 sort of the idea that it kind of puts in your head, 15 what it makes you think of. So impression here is going to be, 16 um, sort of a visual, um, 17 interpretation of what's going on in the room and other words, 18 um, as an answer choice, 19 a it's appearance, the appearance of the room, 20 um, and they're talking about how the room looks, 21 um, what it makes a viewer feel. 22 So appearance is the best answer choice here. 23 Um, B belief doesn't make sense. 24 Talk about the belief of a room necessarily. 25 Um, Tracy imitation also doesn't really work if he read that back in context, 26 um, it's not really imitating anything. 27 It makes you think of something, but that's more related to its appearance than 28 what it's imitating, um, and de recollection also doesn't quite fit. 29 Um, it's not really a memory of the room. That's that's relevant here. 30 It's the way it currently looks. Um, when you enter, 31 when you, when you view it. So that's why we're going to select answer 32 twice a year for question number 10.
