Explanation for Question 1 From the Reading Section on the 2017 April Sat
In this video, we're taking a look at the April, 2017 sat exam. 2 We're starting out with the first passage and taking a look at question number 3 one. So this question is asking us, 4 according to the passage, the old man was standing on the veranda because why? 5 So we're looking for, um, a detail in the passage that relates to the 6 reasoning for the old man being outside in the first place. 7 So it's important to note that we're looking for his original reason for standing 8 on the veranda, because these details are answer choices. 9 Many of them do occur or are discussed, 10 but we're looking for his main reason for being there originally. 11 Um, so we find that evidence at the end of that first 12 column of the passage, um, 13 the old one was waiting on the veranda with lantern. 14 In his hand, it says he had come out because he had heard the 15 throbbing of the engine and the distance. 16 Um, and then when the car does arrive, he tells his wife, 17 um, or he tells narrator. 18 I told her that I heard the car. I knew it was the car 19 I told her you were coming. So that's his reasoning answer, 20 choice C. He had heard what he believed to be the visitor's car. 21 Um, although these other details do occur, 22 he did watch cars travel down the road. 23 The two boys were involved and he did enjoy listening to the quiet sounds 24 of the evening. See is really his main intention for being there. 25 So that's our correct answer.
